Given :

  • Town has provisions to last for 3 weeks.
  • Its populations is 22400

To Find :

  • How many people must be sent away in order that the provision may last for 7 weeks.

Solution :

  • populations is 22400

  • provisions to last for 3 weeks.

Hence Provision = 22400 x 3 man weeks

Let say P people left

Then People = (22400 - P)

Provision last for 7 weeks

hence provision = (22400 - P) * 7 man weeks

22400 x 3 = (22400 - P) * 7

=> 3200 x 3 = 22400 - P

=> 9600 = 22400 - P

=> P = 22400 - 9600

=> P = 12800

12800 people have to leave
