A biconvex thick lens is constructed with glass (μ = 1.50). Each of the surfaces has a radius of 10 cm and the thickness at the middle is 5 cm. Locate the image of an object placed far away from the lens.

Given :

R1=R2=10cm

t=5cm

u= - ∞

For first refraction at A

μg/V-μa/u= μg-μa/R1

1.5/V-0=1.5/10

v=30cm

for second refraction at B

u= 30-5=25cm (virtual object)

R2= - 10cm

1/v-15/25= -0.5/-10

v= 9.1cm

So the image is formed 9.1cm from the Second surface of lens

Answer is explained below!

!

R1=R2=10cm

t=5cm

u= - ∞

For first refraction at A

μg/V-μa/u= μg-μa/R1

1.5/V-0=1.5/10

v=30cm

for second refraction at B

u= 30-5=25cm (virtual object)

R2= - 10cm

1/v-15/25= -0.5/-10

v= 9.1cm
So the image is formed 9.1cm from the Second surface of lens
