let the cp be rs.x
when profit is 12% :
sp= (12/100)*x+x
= (6/50)*x+x
= (6x+50x)/50 = 56x/50 = 28x/25
when profit is 20% :
sp= (20/100)*x+x
= (x/5)+x
= x+5x/5 = 6x/5
according to question:
6x/5 - 28x/25
= 30x - 28x/25
=2x/25
which is equal to 16
then,
2x/25=16
=> x= 16*25/2
=> x = 200
now, cp= rs.200
then sp when profit is 12%
= (12/100)*200+200= rs.224
sp when profit is 20 %
=(20/100)*200+200
= rs. 240
hope this helps :)
