The number of students that can fit into the big school bus is 56.

Given,

A big school bus was2/7full when it left Area A.

When it arrived at Area B, 9 children alighted the bus.

There were 31 children on the bus after that.

To Find,

The number of children that can fit into the bus.

Solution,

The bus was \frac{2}{7} full at area A.

9 children alighted and 31 students were left.

So,

= (31 + 9) ÷ (1 -  \frac{2}{7} )

On solving the equation,

=  \frac{40}{1 -\frac{2}{7} }

on taking the lcm of the denominator, we get

= \frac{40}{\frac{7-2}{7} }

=40 × \frac{7}{5}.

= 8 × 7

= 56.

The number of students that can fit into the big school bus is 56.
