Initial velocoty (u) of the bike = 5km/h = 25/18m/s

Final velocity = 0 (as the bike cems to rest)

time taken = 5s

Acceleration = (v-u)/t
= (0-25/18) / 5
= -(25/18)/5
= - 5/18 m/s^2

Mass of the bike and rider = 100kg

Force = mass× acceleration
= (100)(-5/18)
= -27.77 N

Hence, the force applied by the brakes was 27.77N.
Here, the negative sign represnts force in opp. direction.
