speed = distance/time

1 km = d / t1

t1 = d/1 = d

Down

9km = d / t2

t2 = d / 9

Avg speed = total distance / total time

Avg speed = 2d / d + d/9

= 2d / d( 1 + 1 /9

= 2/ 9 + 1 / 9

= 2 /10 / 9

= 2 × 9 /10

= 18 / 10

= 1.8

Avg speed = 1.8 km/hour
