a) Bill needs to balance an equation that involves aluminium oxide (formula Al2O3). He needs a total of 12 oxygen atoms to balance his equation. What should he write? 12 Al2O3, 4 Al2O3 or Al6O12? b) Sulphuric acid, also called ‘king of chemicals’ has the formula H2SO4. Its appearance is different from that of hydrogen and sulphur. Give two other reasons why sulphuric acid is a compound and not a mixture?

a) He should write as 4Al2O3 to get the 12 Oxygen atoms.

b) H2SO4 is a compound not mixture because, mixture is something that can be easily separated by physical means.

Compound is substance containing many atoms of diffrent elements which cannot be separated by simple physical means.

Hence, H2SO4 is a compound having 2 atoms of Hydrogen, 1 Sulphur Atom and 4 Oxygen atoms which cannot be separated by simple physical separation technique.
