A bird shooter was asked how many birds he had in the bag. He replied that there were all sparrows but six,all pigeons but six,and all ducks but six. How many birds he had in the bag?

9. as he says but it means there are all Sparrows but 6 of them are not same goes in every case ...rest 6 (equally divided in other two) 3+3+3=9

Solution :

Here , let us assume that the bird shooter has x birds in his bag.

He was asked about that number .

HIs reply - " there were all sparrows but six,all pigeons but six,and all ducks but six. "

So, we can draw 3 independent conclusions from this -

1. Out of x birds , (x - 6) were pigeons

2. Out of x birds , (x - 6) were sparrows

3. Out of x birds , (x - 6) were ducks

This is only possible when x = 9 or , there are 3 sparrows, 3 pigeons and 3 ducks.

This is the required answer
