A bit of a doubt.

In Merchant of Venice, Antonio who is the given hero and main character has been mentioned in Act1 scene 3 where Shylock, the Jew moneylender accuses Antonio of abusing his community. if the very hero who is supposed to be "virtuous" is doing something like insulting and abusing communities like the Jews, How can we even consider him a hero? in that case, Antonio plays the devil(villain) right?

Answer: Yes, he insults Shylock and spits on his robe, etc which are not the qualities of a virtuous man. But he is the hero because he does not only risk his life for his spendthrift friend but also loves his friend a lot because  before the trial scene he tells that it will be very good of Bassanio to come and meet him for the last time.

As Shakespeare has written this drama in the time when Christians dominated over the Jews, he thinks that Antonio is right in doing so.
