A block at rest explodes into three parts. Two parts start moving along X and Y axes respectively with equal speeds of 10 m/s. Find the initial velocity of the third part.

ANSWER::


The block exploded due to its internal energy so , the net external force during this process is 0 .

Therefore , centre of mass will not change .


Let the body when exploded was at origin of co-ordinate system.


If the two parts of body having equal masses moving at a speed of 10 m/s in positive x-axis and positive y-axis direction respectively then,


√(10² + 10² + 2 x 10 x 10 cos 90°) = 10√2 m/s 45° with respect to positive x-axis


And if the centre of mass is at rest then the third part of the body which have equal mass with other two , will move in opposite direction (which is 135° with respect to x-axis) of the resultant at the same velocity.
