Given Data:
Specific gravity of Block B = 2
Specific gravity of Block C = 0.5
Ratio of the masses of the blocks B and C = ?
Solution:
It is given that both are joined together and they are floating inside water such that they are completely dipped inside water.
Hence,
Total specific gravity = 2 + 0.5 = 2.5
We know that specific gravity is directly proportional to the density and density is directly proportional to the mass.
Therefore,
2.5
α Combined Mass of Blocks B and C
Also,
2.5 α 1 + Mass of C / Mass of B
2.5 - 1 α  Mass of C / Mass of B
25/10 -1 α  Mass of C / Mass of B
(25 - 10) / 10 α  Mass of C / Mass of B
15 / 10 α  Mass of C / Mass of B
3 / 2 α  Mass of C / Mass of B
Hence, Mass of B / Mass of C = 2 /3
Thus, ratio of the masses of the blocks B and C is 2 : 3
Which is the required answer. Hope it will help you.
