A block of mass 2 kg is lifted through a chain. When block moves through 2m vertically the velocity becomes 4 m/s.

We have to find the Work done by chain force until it moves 2m.

From work - energy theorem,

work done by chain = change in mechanical energy

= change in potential energy + change in kinetic energy

= mgh + 1/2 mv²

here,

  • m = mass of chain = 2 kg
  • g = acceleration due to gravity = 10 m/s²
  • h = block lifted up to = 2 m
  • v = velocity of block = 4m/s²

Work done by chain = 2 kg × 10 m/s² × 2m + 1/2 × 2 kg × (4m/s)²

= 40 J + 16 J

= 56 J

Therefore the world one by chain force until it moves is 56 J.
