A block of mass 3.63kg.slides on a horizontal frictionless table with a speed of 1.22m/s.it is brought to rest in compressing a spring in its path.By how much is the spring compressed if its force constant is 135N/m

Answer:

The work done by the spring force on the block as the spring is compressed a distance d from its rest state is given by

Ws = – (1/2) k d^2

Change in K.E = Kf – Ki = 0 – (1/2) m v^2

from Work nergy theorem

– (1/2) m v^2 = – (1/2) k d^2

d = v \sqrt(m/k)

put all the values and you will find the answer.
