Given

A block of mass 5 kg is kept on a rough horizontal surface. A force of 100 N is applied on the block ( μk = 0.4 )

To Find

Acceleration of the block

Solution

  • Mass , m = 5 kg
  • Force , F = 100 N
  • Coefficient of kinetic friction , μk = 0.4

\bf \pink{ \Sigma F_x=ma}\\\\\to \rm (F-F_f)=ma

where ,

  • F denotes force
  • Ff denotes frictional force
  • m denotes mass
  • a denotes acceleration

\to \rm (100-\mu_k N)=ma\\\\\to \rm (100-\mu_k\ (mg))=ma\\\\\to \rm (100-(0.4)(5\times 10))=5a\\\\\to \rm (100-20)=5a\\\\\to \rm 5a=80\\\\\bf \to \green{a=16\ m/s^2\ \; \bigstar}

So , Option (1) is correct
