normal reaction, N = mgcosθ

friction = mgsinθ

a block of mass m is held on a rough inclined surface of inclination θ.

see free body diagram,

normal reaction between block and mass is N.

weight of block along plane = mgsinθ

weight of block perpendicular to plane = mgcosθ

block doesn't move perpendicular to plane. so,weight of block perpendicular to plane is balanced by normal reaction applied by wedge on it.

i.e., N = mgcosθ

now, block has tendency to move downward with respect to wedge.

so, frictional force acting on block in upward direction as shown in figure.

block doesn't move along plane.

then, weight of block along plane is balanced by frictional force.

friction = mgsinθ
