A block of weight 90 newton rests on a horizontal surface, The coefficient of static
and kinetic friction are O.5 & 0.4 respectively, If a horizontal surface of 50 N iS
applied on the block the frictional force acting on the block is equal to
(1) 36 N
(2) 45 N

(3) 50 N
(4) 25 N

Answer:

36N

Explanation:

90 × 0.5= 45

this is the max. force which should be applied so as the block remains at rest.

But a force of 50N is applied, this force is enough to overcome friction and thus the block begins to move. Here the role of kinetic friction starts and the force of friction will be 90× 0.4 i.e. 36
