when the metal plate falls in water the weight over wooden block is decreased as a result the wooden block gets lifted over, since the buoyant force on wooden block is decreased the distance y will be less than the previous i.e less than 50 cm.

also the distance x will be less than the previous, because wooden block will get lifted over, hence the new distance x will be lesser than the previous one i.e less than 3 cm.

the only option, which satisfies the above explanation is option d,

i.e y = 48 cm, x = 1cm
