A block weighing 10 N travels down a smooth curved track AB joined to a rough horizontal surface (figure). The rough surface has a friction coefficient of 0.20 with the block. If the block starts slipping on the track from a point 1.0 m above the horizontal surface, how far will it move on the rough surface?

Given in the question :-
μ = 0.2 , h = 1 m , mg = 10 N

So P.E wrt ground = mgh
= 10 × 1
= 10 J.
Here frictional force on the rough surface
F = μ .R
F = 0.2 × 10 [ Here R is equal to the mg]
F = 2 N.

Assume it moves the distance S on the rough track , Then W.D by force
W = F × S
S = W/ F
S = 10 / 2
S = 5 m.

Hence the block move 5 m on the rough surface.

Hope it Helps.
