A boat can cover 25 km upstream and 42 km downstream together in 7 hours. Also it can cover 30 km upstream and 63 km downstream together in 9 hours. What is the speed of the boat in still water?

In 1st case,

Total diatance covered in going upstream and downstream is (25+42)km

=67km =67000m

Time taken=7 h=7❌3600 s

= 25200 s

Distance covered in 1s i.e speed,v=67000/25200

=2.65 m/s.

In 2nd case,

Total distance=30+63=93km

93000m

Time,t=9h= 32400 s.

Distance in 1s i.e speed ,v=93000/32400

=2.87m/s

Speed of boat still in water is between 2.9m/s and 2.7m/s.
