A boat can cover a distance of 7.2km downstream and 3.2 km upstream in 2 hours. It can also cover 1.5 km downstream and 0.6 km upstream in 24 minutes. What is the speed of the boat when going downstream in km/h)

Given :

Case I : boat cover a distance of 7.2 km downstream and 3.2 km upstream in 2 hours .

Case II : boat cover 1.5 km downstream and 0.6 km upstream in 24 minutes.

Let , speed of upstream be u and speed of down speed be v .

Equation of case 1 :

\dfrac{7.2}{v}+\dfrac{3.2}{u}=2

Equation of case 2 :

\dfrac{1.5}{v}+\dfrac{0.6}{u}=\dfrac{24}{60}

Solving both equations we get :

u = 4 km/h and  v = 6 km/h .

Hence , this is the required solution .
