Step-by-step explanation:

Upstream means, move in a direction opposite to flow of river and Downstream means, move in the direction of flow of river.

Let the velocity of boat with respect to river=Vb

velocity of river with respect to ground = Vr

In upstream,

Net velocity=Vb-Vr

Total distance=45km

Total time=9 hours

Vb-Vr=45÷9 =5....................................Equation-1

In downstream,

Net velocity=Vb+Vr

Total distance=56km

Total time=4 hours

Vb+Vr=56÷4=14....................................Equation -2

From Equation 1 and 2

Vb= (14+5)÷2=19/2 km/h

Vr=(14-5)÷2=9/2 km/h

Hope it is helpful.
