A boat covers certain distance downstream in 3 hours and it cover the same distance upstream if the speed of boat is 8km/hr. Find the speed of the stream​

Lets say the speed of stream is x km/hr.

Analyzation:-

1.Inorder to find the answer we need to equate.

2.The distance is the common thing in this case, because it is fixed.

3.Speed adds up when going downstream and vice versa.

Distance covered by boat downstream= S×T=(8+x)×3

Distance covered by boat upstream=S×T=(8-x)×4

(8+x)×3=(8-x)×4

24+3x=32-4x

3x+4x=32-24=8

x=8/7km/hr

Speed of Stream= 8/7 km/hr.(Ans.)

(PS- The question is wrong, as it is missing another value. Which is the 'time taken by boat to go upstream'. Hence I assumed it to be 4km/hr.)
