A boat goes 12 km in 1 hour in still
water. It takes thrice the time in
covering the same distance against the
current. Find the speed of the current.

as to move against the river flow, the boat must have speed greater than tha speed of flowing river

let v be the velocity of river flow

as v and u are acting in opposite directions

therefore u-v will be the effective velocity

so, u-v = 12/3 =4

solving the equation we get v= 8
