Answer:

FOLLOW MY STEPS :-

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the speed of the boat in still water be x mph

Downstream distance :— 240 miles

Upstream distance:— 160 miles

Both upstream and downstream distances covered in the same time

Speed in upstream : current speed - boat speed in still water

Speed in down stream:— current speed + boat speed in still water

Time taken to cover 240 miles downstream: 240÷ ( 5 + x )

Time taken to cover 160 miles upstream:— 160÷ ( 5 — x )

240/ 5 + x = 160/ 5 -x

x = 1

Answer:-

Speed of the boat in still water: 1 mile per hour
