The distance covered =y

The upstream journey ,

speed=x-1 kmph

Distance = y

Time taken = 5 HR

now by equating distance you get

4(X+1) = 5(x-1)

4x+4 = 5x-5

X =9kmph

SO SUBSTITUTE SPEED IN ANY CASE

y = 5(9-1)

y = 40 km
