Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

UPSTREAM          = X - Y = 10 [eq 1]

DOWNSTREAM   = X + Y = 20 [eq 2]

USING ELIMINATION METHOD :

                                      X  +  Y  =  20

                                      X   -  Y  =  10

___________________________________________

                                      2X = 30

                                         X = 15

SUBSTITUTING X IN EQ 1 WE GET:

Y = 20 - 15

Y = 5

X = SPEED OF BOAT

Y = SPEED OF STREAM

SO THE RATIO IS 15:5 WHICH IS 3:1
