Hey mate..here is your answer..

let the speed of the stream be x

speed of the boat in water = 5 km / hrs

therefore , the speed of the boat upstream is (5-x)km/hrs

downstream is (5+x)km/hrs

time taken to cover 40km upstream = 3( time taken to cover downstream)

40/(5-x)=3/(40/5+x)

120/5+x = 40/5-x

600 -120x = 200 + 40 x

600 - 200 = 120 + 40 x

400 = 160 x

x=400/160

therefore x = 2.5 km/ hrs...

hope it is useful if so mark this as brainliest answer...
