A boat moves with a speed of 5 km/h relative to the water in the river flowing with speed of 3 km/h and having a width of 1 km. The time taken by the boat to cross the river by shortest path will be?

speed of boat = 5km/h

speed of stream = 3km/h

since, both boat and flow of stream is in the same direction therefore,

relative speed

= 5-3 = 2km/h

width of river(distance) = 1km

time = distance/speed

time taken by the boat to cross the river by Shortest path

= 1/2 hrs = (1/2)×60 = 30 minutes
