according to the question the speed of the boat in downstream is 40 kilometre per hour

the speed of the boat in upstream is 15 kilometre per hour

so while traveling down streams the speed is equal to..... speed of the stream + the speed of the boat

while travelling upstream the speed is equals to is equals to speed of boat - the speed of stream

we got the equation as

x+y=40

x-y =15

where X is the speed of the boat and y is the speed of the stream

by solving these two equations we get

X is equals to 27.5 kmph

and y is equals 12.5 kmph
