Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the speed of the current be x

Let the speed of the boat be V

When upstream, water current is slowing down the boat....so the speed of the boat is

V-x

Now upstream, the boat covers 24Km in 6 hrs,

So V-x = (24/6) Km/hr=4 Km/hr-(i)

When downstream, water current speeds up the boat..so the speed of the boat is

V+x

Now downstream the boat covers 20 km in 4 hrs

So V+x= (20/4)Km/hr= 5 Km/hr-(ii)

From (i)&(ii), we get

V=4+x

V=5-x

According to the problem,

4+x=5-x

=>2x=1

=>x=0.5

Therefore

Speed of Water current=x= 0.5Km/hr

Speed of boat=V= 4+0.5= 4.5 Km/hr

Hope this answer helps you
