A boat while empty floats with 1/5 of its volume submerged in a lake water . This boat can carry a maximum load of 950 N and still float in the same water. Find the weight of the empty boat.Plz answer it fast .Class 9

Let m be mass of the boat. Also ,V be volume of the boat. Weight of the boat is mg.

In first situation: Volume of water displaced is V/5

The weight of displaced water is (V/5)dg.

d is density of water.

According to law of floatations mg=(V/5)dg…….(1)

Similarly in second situation, since weight in the boat is maximum the entire volume of the boat equals the volume of the displaced water. Therefore,

mg +950 = Vdg……(2)

Dividing (2) by (1), we have

( mg + 950 )/mg =5 OR

mg + 950 = 5 mg OR

4 mg =950 OR

mg =950/4 = 237.5 N
