A body A of mass 2kg moving with a velocity of 25m/s in the east direction collides elastically with another body B of mass 3kg moving with velocity of 15m/s westwards. Calculate the velocity of each ball after the collision. (Ans vA = -23m/s , vB = 17m/s )

Step-by-step explanation:

m1 = 2 kg

m2= 3 kg

u1= 25 m/s

u2 = -15 m/s

as given the collision is elastic

e= v2-v1/u1-u2 =1

now by applyiing momentum conservation m1u1 + m2u2 = m1v1 + m2v2 and above equation

we get

v1= (m1-m2)u1 + 2m2u2/ M1+m2

v1= (2-3) ×25 + 2×3 (-15)/2+3

by solving above we get v1 = -23 m/s

similarly for V2

v2 = 2m1v1 + (m2-m1)u2/m1+m2

2×2×25 +(3-2) (-15)/3+2

v2 = 17 m/s

hope it helps
