Given data : A body accelerates uniformly from rest at the rate of 3 m/s² for 8 sec.

To find : Calculate the distance covered by the body during the acceleration.

Solution : A/C to given data;

  • Initial velocity = 0 (A body accelerates uniformly from rest )
  • acceleration = 3 m/s²
  • Time taken = 8 sec

Now, we use kinematical equation;

➜ s = ut + ½ at²

Where,

  • u = initial velocity of the body
  • a = acceleration of the body
  • t = time taken by the body
  • s = displacement

➜ s = ut + ½ at²

➜ s = 0 * 8 + ½ * 3 * (8)²

➜ s = ½ * 3 * 64

➜ s = 3 * 32

➜ s = 96 m

Answer : Hence, the distance coverd by the body during the acceleration is 96 m.

Kinematical equations

  • v = u + at

  • s = {(u+v)/2} * t
  • s = ut + ½ at²
  • s = vt - ½ at²

  • v² = u² + 2as
