Given that -

  • A body at rest is acted upon by a force 100 N for 5 sec (time).
  • The velocity of the body becomes 25m/sec.

To Find -

Mass of the body.

Solution -

Force is a push or pull and its formula is ma.

F = ma

Given force is 100N.

We have to find the mass (m). Force is given. But we don't have the value of acceleration (a) too.

Now,

Acceleration is defined as the rate of change in velocity.

i.e. a = ∆v/t or a = (v - u)/t

So,

F = m × v/t

Substitute the known values in the above formula

→ 100 = m × 25/5

→ 100 = m × 5

Divide by 5 on both sides

→ 100/5 = 5m/5

→ 20 = m

Therefore, the mass of the body is 20 kg.
