Displacement may be zero during traveling when initial and final point are same. Thus,

Avg velocity=Displacement /time, may be zero.

But distance can not zero during traveling hence

Avg speed=distance/time, can not zero.

Implies that if displacement is zero, distance may or may not be zero.

If an object thrown upwards goes up to a height of Hm and returns back to the thrower, displacement is 0(average velocity=0)but distance is 2H(average speed is not zero).

Hence average velocity can be zero even if average speed is not zero.
