When an object travels in some path and returns to its initial point, the distance travelled will always be non-zero and hence average speed (total distance/time) will also be non-zero.
But I that case, displacement is 0. Hence average velocity (displacement/time) will be 0

we know that,
Av speed =total distance traveled /total time taken , where distance traveled can never be 0, therefore it can not be 0.......but Av velocity =total displacement /total time taken.... So displace can be 0 therefore Av velocity can be 0..... Hope helped
