Average speed is the ratio of total distance by TOTAL time taken. As average velocity depends on displacement and displacement can be zero if the object returns to initial position . ... Whereas displacement is zero as source and destination is same. Hence A body can have zero average velocity but not zero average speed.

body can have zero avg velocity as displacement is zero but in that case it is not necessary that distance must be zero

for e.g. a body is moving in a circular orbit here displacement is zero whereas distance is equal to no. of revolutions*2πr
