Suppose that mass is”M” and the body which is at rest is”m”
Now the body is at rest it's weigh=mg
Second body which is moving at speed “V” it's momentum=MV
A body which is at rest have momentum equal to it's weight
MV=mg
Now after collision it's velocity becomes half
MV/2 =mg
MV=2mg
Or m=MV/2g
Now coming to theory if a body collides elasticity with another body it's velocity can't be HALF so double check ur question
