Given : -

A body covers 10 km in 10 minute next 5 km in 5 minute and next 5 km in 5 minute.

To find : -

Average speed of a body

Solution : -

In first case

A body covers 10 km in 10 minute

1 km = 1000m

Multiply 10 by 1000 to convert kilometre in meter

→ Distance (D1) = 10 × 1000 = 10000m

1 min = 60 s

Multiply 60 by 10 to convert minute in hour

→ Time (t1) = 10 × 60 = 600s

In second case

A body covers 5 km in 5 minute

Distance = 5km

→ Distance (D2) = 5 × 1000 = 5000m

Time = 5 min

→ Time (t2) = 5 × 60 = 300s

In third case

A body covers 5 km in 5 minute

Distance (D3) = 5000m

Time (t3) = 300s

Now,

As we know that

→ Average speed = Total distance travelled/total time

→ Average speed = D1 + D2 + D3/t1 + t2 + t3

→ Average speed = 10000 + 5000 + 5000/600 + 300 + 300

→ Average speed = 20000/1200

→ Average speed = 16.6 m/s

Hence,

Average speed of body is 16.6 m/s
