average velocity = displace / time

so here we can assume total displacement covered is S

for 1st  part    time = displacement / velocity   =  (S/3) / 2  

as displacement is S/3 and veocity is 2

 

similarly for 2nd part time = (S/3) / 3

                  3rd part time = (S/3) / 6

 

so total time = (S/6) + (S/9) + (S/18) =  S (3+2+1)     =  S (6)    =   S

                                                                     18                 18          3

 

therefore average velocity =   S      =  S3   =   3m/s
