Let the time of travel for both the bodies be T then,
Distance traveled be first body = a x T
Distance traveled by second body = b x T
Hence average speed = (a x T) + (b x T)/ 2T
= (a +b)/T
Distance traveled be first body = a x T

Hence average speed = (a x T) + (b x T)/ 2T
= (a +b)/T
