Distance - πR and Displacement - 2R

Explanation:

If we consider the distance covered then we can see that the circumference of circle = 2πR . So distance covered in half circle = πR

Displacement is the shortest path covered so if we want to go around half of circular path the figure would be somewhat like above one ( ignore the bad drawing ).

So the shortest path to go through half of circular path ( or A to B ) would be the diameter which is 2R . ¶¶¶
