If a body is moving in a circular path, then its velocity is changing as velocity is a vector quantity and since, the direction of the body is changing, it's velocity is changing continuously. This change implies acceleration. This acceleration is directed towards the center of the circular path and is called centripetal acceleration. It allows the body to go round the circle having the velocity vector tangent to the circular trajectory and acceleration at 90° to it directed towards the center.
If acceleration disappears, the body will fly away tangentially in the direction of the last tangential velocity it had.
Hope it will help you. Thanks.
