Given:

A body is projected up with velocity u it reaches a point in its path at times t1 and t2 sec from time of time of projection

To find:

The value of  t1+t2 is

Solution:

From given, we have,

The time taken for upward motion is t1

The time taken for downward motion is t2

we use the formula given by, the equation of trajectory,

h = ut - 1/2gt^2

1/2gt^2 - ut + h = 0

the above equation represents the standard form of a quadratic equation, ax^2 + bx + c = 0, where t1 ad t2 are the roots of the equation.

comparing the equations, we have,

a = 1/2g, b = -u and c = h

In order to find the value of t1 + t2, we need to find the roots of equation  1/2gt^2 - ut + h = 0

so, we get,

The sum of roots = t1 + t2 = - b/a = - (-u)/(1/2g)  = 2u/g

Therefore, the value of t1 + t2 is 2u/g
