Given:

A body is projected vertically upwards with a velocity of 40 m/s

So, Initial velocity of the body ( u ) = 40 m/s

Since, the body comes to rest after reaching maximum height

Final velocity of the body ( v ) = 0 m/s

The stone is thown upwards so g is considered as negative

Acceleration due to gravity acting on the body ( g ) = - 10 m/s²

Let the maximum height reached by the body be 'h' m

Using third equation of motion

⇒ v² - u² = 2gh

⇒ 0² - 40² = 2( - 10 )( h )

⇒ 0 - 1600 = - 20h

⇒ 20h = 1600

⇒ h = 1600 / 20

⇒ h = 80

Therefore the maximum height reached by the body is 80 m ( A )
