Answer:
A stone is thrown vertically from the ground and it reaches the maximum height of 500m in 10 seconds. After what time will it reach the ground from the maximum height?
Since the stone has reached its maximum height it's velocity has become zero .Now the stone will start moving downwards with an acceleration of 9.8m/s^2 .
Now using the formula of laws of motion
S=ut+1/2(at^2 )
Here
u-initial velocity
t-time taken
a-acceleration
S-distance travelled
In this case,u=0(the velocity of stone has become zero),S=500m(this is the max distance and thus the distance to the ground will be same),a=9.8m/s^2(acceleration due to gravity).
Putting in the values we get
Time=10.09 sec
Also for the ease of calculation we sometimes take the acceleration due to gravity(g) as 10m/s^2 instead of 9.8m/s^2.
In that case the answer comes out to be
Time=10 sec
Or basically the equal time it takes to go up.
