if the body is thrown upwards it will stop at the highest point and then start moving downwards.

so here intial velocity, u = 20m/s

final velocity, v = 0m/s

height, h = ? (we have to find)

acceleration= -10 m / s

acceleration is in negative because ball is moving in opposite direction of the earth pull.

by third equation of motion ,

2gh= v²- u²

2gh = 0²-20²

2gh= -400

h = -400/2×(-10)

h= -200/-10

h=20 m

therefore maximum height is 10 m .
