A body is thrown vertically upward with velocity 'u'. Derive an expression for greatest height 'h' to which it will rise?

we have the displacement occurred to be

s = (v2 - u2) / 2a

here.

s = h

u = u

v = 0

a = -g

so,

h = (0 - u2) / 2(-g)

thus,

maximum height travelled will be

h =  u2 / 2g

We know that v^2 - u^2 = 2gh

                        =  0 -  u^2 = 2gh

                            u^2 =  2gh

                      h = u^2/2g.

Hope this helps!
