Answer :

Given -

  • 50 km with speed of 20 m/s
  • 20 km in 1.5 hours

To Find -

  • Average Velocity ?

Solution -

Speed = 20 m/s

Distance = 50 km = 50,000 m

We know that, Speed = Distance/Time.

Time = Distance/Speed

⇒ Time = 50000/20

⇒ Time = 5000/2

⇒ Time = 2500 seconds

Also,

Distance = 20 km = 20,000 m

Time = 1.5 hours = 1.5*60*60 = 5400 seconds

So, Average Velocity = Total Distance/Total Time

⇒ Avg. Velocity = (50,000 + 20,000)/(2500 + 5400)

⇒ Avg. Velocity = (70,000)/(7900)

⇒ Avg. Velocity = (700)/(79)

⇒ Avg. Velocity = 8.8 m/s

Hence, Average Velocity of the body is 8.8 m/s.
