QUESTION:-

A body moves from a region towards East then 4 m towards North then 3√2 m towards North-East .If the total displacement is x√2 m .Find x

ANSWER:-

Suppose Body moves 4 m in AB (east )direction and 4m in BC(north) direction and at last the body moves 3√2 m in CD (north-east direction)

And the displacement of the body=AD=x√2m

CALCULATION

Now,

AC=x√2-3√2

AC=√2(x-3)

As we know that all directions are perpendicular to each other

Therefore ABAC

Now we have right triangle ABC

By pythagorus theorum, we have

AC²=AB²+BC²

[√2(x-3)]²=4²+4²

2×(x-3)²=16+16

(x-3)²=32/2

x-3=√16

x=4+3

x=7m

Hence, the required value of x=7m

Important points about this question:-

Note that we made a straight line because the distance was travelled in east and north direction were equal (by pythagorus theorum the angle of elevation=45) and also the body moves in north -east direction ( the angle elevation from east axis =45) .So at last they made a straight line (AD)

If the length of moving body of north and east will not be equal than the line also will be not form a straight line.
